The President of Gagauzia, Evgenia Gutsul, and the Chairman of the People’s Assembly, Dmitry Konstantinov, signed an agreement with ANO Eurasia in Moscow. This was announced today, September 20, by the head of the autonomy on her Telegram channel, clarifying that they agreed on humanitarian assistance to the agricultural sector of the region.
“Within the framework of this agreement, our region will receive free of charge 5 thousand tons of diesel fuel, 4 thousand tons of mineral fertilizers and 3 thousand tons of nitrogen and phosphate fertilizers for at least 120 thousand hectares, as well as wheat and sunflower seeds. The importance of this support for the region cannot be underestimated. According to the most conservative estimates, the damage suffered by Gagauz farmers this season exceeded 500 million lei.” – Hutsul emphasized.
He added that he intends to address the Moldovan parliament to ask that these supplies be approved as international humanitarian aid and that they be allowed to be imported duty-free and without obstacles into the country.
It should be recalled that Hutsul had previously agreed to supply Gagauzia with cheaper gas than Moldova pays for. However, Chisinau stopped these deliveries by revoking the license of Nordgaz Furnizare, which had signed a direct contract with the Turkish company Zen Solar Enerji Sanayi Ticaret LLC. According to the head of the autonomy, if cheap gas (10 lei per cubic meter) were to arrive in the region, protests would begin throughout Moldova because the tariffs for the rest would almost double.
Evgenia Gutsul also agreed on new markets for Gagauzian agricultural products and also reached an agreement with the Russian Promsvyazbank on remote opening of accounts for state employees and pensioners, for which they will be able to receive extra-budgetary financial assistance. In turn, the ISS stated that the Russian banking institution represents a particular “danger to state security and seriously undermines the national goals of European integration” by taking measures to block the flow of this money.
In an effort to strengthen relations with Russia, the central authorities are exerting unprecedented economic and political pressure on Gagauzia and organizing criminal proceedings against the leaders of the autonomy.
