I am rather reluctant to donate to charitable causes, because I don’t really believe in them, knowing that NGOs end up being a monster with a lot of appetiteand therefore devour part of the gifts for himself. The same thing happens with countless beach bars that live on the taxes of ordinary Spaniards, other very voracious monsters, which is why a substantial part of the budget stays at home and does not reach its recipients.
I remember that at the end of the last century, the Balearic delegation of a state NGO organized a market to raise funds which would be used for the medical care of the prostitutes who were on the streets of Palma. In those distant times, these women were not protected. And I signed up as a volunteer during the weekend that the initiative lasted. Furthermore, everything that was sold were contributions of all kinds, from anonymous hands, all from ordinary people. At my stop, you sold books and records. The collection amounted to 250,000 pesetas (we were not in the euro), and there were many more stands, with their corresponding sales.
Later, I learned that the national leaders had given orders to send them the entire amount collected and they would take care of it. I have decided to no longer collaborate.
The catastrophic cold fall of October 29 which caused so much desolation, especially in the Valencian Community, immediately mobilized civil society. Meanwhile, institutions were throwing their weight around instead of getting to work from minute one. I recommend that you search the Internet for the testimony of the Valencian novelist Santiago Posteguillowho lived 50 meters from the Poyo ravine. It’s heartbreaking.
Well here In the Balearic Islands, civil society mobilized in an exemplary manner and a large quantity of material was collected for Valencia. More than three weeks have passed and civil society remains mobilized, and Now it’s your turn to show solidarity with the performing arts. I want to refer especially at two meetings, the first on November 29 and the second on December 1. In both cases, the usual zero line for raising funds is included.
Starting with the second, the Federation of Local Entities of the Balearic Islands (FELIB) organizes the solidarity gala Balearic Islands to Valenciain the Illes Balears auditorium (around 2000 seats) of the Congress Center on the Palma seafront. In total, around fifteen artists appear on the poster. Welcome to this charity gala institutional.
I prefer to stop at Solidarity concert which will take place on November 29 at the auditorium (300 seats more or less) of the Miró Mallorca Foundation. This time, thirteen musicians are on the bill, with a first part focused on classical music (Mozart, Clara Schumann, Chopin, Astor Piazzola, Joaquin Rodrigo) and the second to versions of songs from León Gieco, Fito Páez, Serrat, Beatles, Thad Jones, Dave Brubeck and Nino Bravo.
I am convinced that this initiative responds to the reflections of Alfredo Oyaguezpianist, professor at the Superior Conservatory and director of the Deià Festival, using his contact list and gathering a series of friends, who will selflessly be on the stage of the Foundation. It’s more.
The call is not ambiguous because it is generalized, but rather the The profits will go directly to the collective of independent musicians Sedajazz and the percussion group AMORES, both based in the town of Sedaví, severely punished by cold gout. A gesture that honors musicians who decide to support causes that they can control without intermediation. This is civil society in its purest form, like the thousands of volunteers, rake and shovel in hand, dedicated to helping in whatever is needed.
Both initiatives are welcome, and the more the better, because help is needed more than ever. Even if I remain with the security that any initiative gives, however modest it may be, but far from being in great fanfare. The Miró Mallorca Foundation is not a gala, it is a solidarity concert.
The photo which illustrates the text corresponds to the AMORES percussion group.
