Seven urban environments, those of Mallou (Santiago), Monte Mero (A Coruña), Sagrado Corazón (Lugo), San Mauro (Pontevedra), Ofimático (Vigo), Baiuca-Penouqueira (Arteixo) and Escorial-Vinteún (Orense), will be house the 15,110 public housing units announced by the Xunta for 2028, as part of the first phase of its land strategy residential. This Monday, during a press conference, the Minister of Housing, María Martínez Allegue, confirmed that only 2,400 of this total will be promoted by the Galician government, while the rest – 84% – will be built by private developers .

This Friday, Ep reported, the call for tenders will be launched for projects of regional interest for land facilitation approved last Monday at the Council for an amount of 2.6 million euros. They will house 15,100 homes, even if the councilor recalled that the objective is to reach 25,000 with his strategy: 20,000 protected and 5,000 free.

According to data provided by her and the general secretary of Vivenda, Heriberto García, 20% of the 15,110 in the first phase will be free (3,022) and 80% will be protected (12,000). Among the latter, 20% – these 2,400 housing units – will be promoted by the Xunta and 80% by private builders (9,600). The forecast managed by the regional government is that 20% of housing will be for sale and that, among rental housing, 40% will be reserved for under 36s.

“Throughout the national territory there is a demand for land that is already urbanized, which is why the Xunta took the initiative and approved the development strategy for residential land,” underlined the head of Vivenda. His region, he explained, has already contacted the councils of the seven cities and their areas of influence and, as a “consequence of these political and technical contacts”, has commissioned “urban feasibility studies” for each area.

According to the head of the sector, Martínez Allegue hopes that next summer “they will already be assigned to the consulting firms so that they can begin the preparation of these projects” and, in parallel, the expropriation projects. It is expected that the projects will be approved in July 2026, and the “commitment” is that in 2028 the area will already be “divided” to be able to “go to tender for urbanization”, so that “urbanization and construction can be carried out”. simultaneously.”
