The president of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda, made this clear this Tuesday during his appearance in the Galician Parliament the increase in investment in housing and announced that the objective of its executive, with emphasis on the 2025 budgets, is to almost triple the budget allocated to residential land and the construction of new housing, which will increase from around 45 million euros to 126 million euros.
The Regional Executive also plans to launch shock legal reforms to try to increase the supply of housing as quickly as possible and thus try to combat the price crisis. Among them, it aims to halve the processing times for new residential land intended for sheltered housing, protected in the form of a project of regional interest.
Another novelty is to facilitate the transformation of commercial premises into housingwithout it being necessary to modify the general urban planning plan (PGOM), provided that a series of conditions are met. These would be located in residential buildings and would meet habitability standards, with the exception of the height from floor to ceiling, which could be 2.30 meters, without the need to reserve places parking.
For an exceptional period of three years, legal coverage will be provided for recover unfinished buildings that the crisis filed in several town halls, provided that they have a permit at the time and that half of the housing is protected. The Galician president also recalled that the objective of the Xunta will be to double the social housing stock by 2028 with 4,000 new units, of which 1,400 are already under construction. Rueda focused on what the housing problem means for young people.
