García-Page announces 159 new professors at UCLM until 2030

President Emiliano García-Page announced this Wednesday that the University of Castilla-La Mancha will have 159 new professors thanks to the agreement that, with a budget of 25 million euros, will be signed next week with this academic institution and the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities. The head of the Regional Executive made these statements during the inauguration of the 2024-2025 academic year, which took place at the UCLM Auditorium, in Ciudad Real.

In this context, García-Page acknowledged that he is not opposed to the provision of private services, although he stressed that it is his duty to ensure that services such as public education or health care are of quality.

As reported at a press conference by Spokesperson for the Government of Castile-La Mancha, Esther PadillaThis agreement responds to the Organic Law of Universities, which establishes some changes to improve the conditions of teaching staff by reducing their number of teaching hours to favor research work.

Due to this regulatory evolution and this reduction in the hours that associate professors and those of the different categories can perform, Padilla explained, the number of teaching hours is reduced and, therefore, new professors must be hired to cover all the needs that students have.

For his part, the Rector of UCLM, Julián Gardetook advantage of the event to request that more financial resources be allocated to Spanish public universities and that they continue to improve until they reach the funding levels of the main OECD countries.
