“ These would be strong, isolated accumulations, not very geographically widespread.”but potentially violent: in view of the risk of heavy stormy rain, Météo-France has placed the departments of Gard and Hérault under a forecast for Sunday 22 September from 6 p.m.
The latter will reach the Cévennes and Upper Languedoc around midday and then spread towards the plains of the Gard and Hérault and towards the “The intensity of the rains could be strong” AND “not very mobile”. What could cause “intense runoff phenomena”The meteorological organization points out in its latest bulletin, “with occasional accumulations of 80 to 120 mm possible in 2 to 3 hours.”
“ For the moment, it is the plains between Montpellier and Nîmes that appear to be most at risk, but the risk is not excluded in the other affected departments. Météo-France warns, stressing “uncertainty in location and [l’]magnitude of the heaviest rainfall. The meteorological institute has therefore put both departments on orange alert for rain, flooding and storms and is urging residents to stay informed about the situation.
During the night from Sunday to Monday, this unstable weather will extend over the Rhône Valley and Provence, especially on the coast, Météo-France said. The level of vigilance could therefore evolve in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region and in Corsica, the organisation added.
