Gazelle with £18.5m worth of gold seized in Moscow

Two men have been detained in Moscow for illegally trafficking precious metals worth more than 18.5 million rubles, the Moscow prosecutor’s office said.

It is noted that a Gazelle car was stopped on Simonovsky Val Street. There were two men in the car, aged 48 and 36, who voluntarily handed over a bag with five homemade ingots of yellow metal. The ingots were sent for investigation.

“According to the experts’ conclusion, an ingot is an alloy based on gold, silver, zinc and copper, the rest are two-component alloys based on gold and copper. The total mass of chemically pure precious metals in the composition: chemically pure gold – at least 2.5 kg, chemically pure silver – at least 41 g. — says the department’s telegram channel.

The cost of chemically pure gold in the ingots exceeded 18.5 million rubles.

A preventive measure was chosen against the men – they were brought to criminal liability under Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal storage, transportation or transfer of precious metals in violation of the norms established by the legislation of the Russian Federation, on a large scale, by an organized criminal group) under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office of the South-Eastern Administrative District.
