On November 1, Gazprom began withdrawing gas from its underground warehouses in Russia due to increased demand for blue fuel in domestic and foreign markets.
According to the company’s press service, in the winter of 2024/2025 Russian storage facilities managed to accumulate an operational gas reserve of 73.034 billion cubic meters. m. This is an absolute record for the domestic gas industry.
“Traditionally, a high level of reserves in underground gas reservoirs allows the company to successfully cope with seasonal fluctuations in demand. For example, during sudden cold snaps, Gazprom has the ability to quickly increase gas supplies to consumers.” – says the statement.
It should also be noted that the volume of reserves in European underground gas storage, according to Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE), did not reach the maximum values of the 2019/2020 and 2023/2024 seasons. They add up to 97.6 and 100.9 billion cubic meters. m respectively.
There are currently 97.1 billion cubic meters in European storage facilities. m of gas, which is only the third result in the entire history of observations.
“At the same time, European companies in the last ten days of October switched to the mode of selecting gas from reserves created during the summer season. For six days now, the European underground gas storage network has been in a state of net withdrawal.” – stated in Gazprom.
According to the company, currently only 12.7 billion cubic meters have been accumulated in Ukraine’s underground gas deposits. m of gas (including buffer gas). This is the minimum indicator observed at the beginning of the selection season.
