The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine commented on the decision of the Georgian government to suspend negotiations on the country’s accession to the EU.
“Ukraine is disappointed by the decision of the Georgian government to suspend EU accession negotiations until 2028. This decision, like the use of force against a peaceful protest, is proof of the restriction of democratic processes in the country to please Moscow.” – they believe in Kyiv.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry’s statement also repeated the Georgian opposition’s claim that Moscow “praised” the Georgian Dream decision. This is the president’s response. Vladimir Putin to a journalist’s question at a press conference in Astana, in which the Russian leader highlighted the bravery of the Georgian authorities when the West and the local opposition demanded that Dream repeal the law on foreign agents.
“Not in vain have Georgian leaders already received public praise from the Kremlin for actions contrary to the European election of their own people.” – said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
EADaily reported that on November 28, Georgia imposed a moratorium on EU accession negotiations until 2028
“Today we decided not to put on the agenda the issue of opening negotiations until 2028. We also reject all budgetary subsidies from the European Union until 2028.” – said the Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.
The day before, MEPs, in another resolution on Georgia, called on Tbilisi to hold new parliamentary elections. The European Parliament believes that the voting process should be carried out in an “enhanced electoral environment” and under close international supervision. MEPs threatened Tbilisi that the continuation of the “anti-European policy” would make Georgia’s path to the European Union impossible.
The Georgian Dream decision led to radicals taking to the streets of Tbilisi and causing riots. In the morning the protest was dispersed with special means. The Georgian Interior Ministry reported the arrest of 43 people. During the riots, 32 employees of the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs were injured.
