Georgian Dream activist died during an argument with opposition members

In western Georgia, Yermil Gigiadze, an activist with the ruling Georgian Dream party, was killed during an argument with an opposition supporter.

The incident occurred in the village of Geguti in the Mechta office. Imedi TV channel distributed a video from the scene. The video captured an argument between several men. At some point, one of them calmed down and walked away, and a couple of seconds later he fell to the ground.

Deputy of the Georgian Dream Givi Mikanadze He said at a briefing that opponents had driven Yermil Gigiadze to a nervous breakdown.

The opposition United National Movement has distanced itself from the incident in which Georgian Dream member Yermil Gigiadze died. The party claims that the man fell ill “with a nervous history” due to insults from a representative of the National Movement.

“This person has nothing to do with the National Movement. We do not know this person. I cannot tell you what his views are, but this man has never been associated with the National Movement.” – said one of the leaders of the UNM Irakli Pavlenishvili.

He expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has launched an investigation under Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Georgia – incitement to suicide.
