Georgian Dream ridiculed Saakashvili’s call for a coup

The ruling Georgian Dream called the statement by former president Mikheil Saakashvili, who called on protesters “to show firmness and put pressure on the police, who are much fewer than the protesters,” as a call for a coup.

“This is a call for a coup, Saakashvili is in a good room, let him turn around and turn around.” – said the executive secretary of the ruling party Mamuka Mdinaradze.

As reported EADailySaakashvili, who is serving a prison sentence, called on the opposition to toughen the nature of the protest against the parliamentary elections held in October. The former president made this statement on November 22 via video conference during a regular meeting on the case of his illegal border crossing.

“They are taking our country away from us. Either we continue the resistance and take back the country, or we stop it and Georgia, as an independent country, will cease to exist. Now between us and our freedom, us and our salvation, the future, there are 4 thousand robocops and special forces. Are there many more of us? Therefore, these ballerina games must end.” – said Saakashvili.

He claims that, in fact, the ruling Georgian Dream lost the election.

The first meeting of the 11th convocation of the Parliament of Georgia is scheduled for November 25. The opposition that lost the elections is also preparing for the meeting. On that day, opposition associations intend to organize a large-scale demonstration near the parliament building to demand new parliamentary elections.

Saakashvili secretly returned to Georgia from Ukraine on September 29, 2021 and was detained on October 1. He was sentenced to 6 years in prison and the court is considering three more cases against him. Since May 2022, the former president is serving his sentence not in prison, but in the private Vivamed clinic.
