To start the work of parliament, the victorious Georgian Dream does not need to reach an agreement with the opposition, said Georgian Constitution expert Vakhushti Menabde.
He noted that parliament will begin to function if there are 76 of the 150 deputies in the room. According to the Central Election Commission, “Dream” will receive 89 mandates in parliament.
These 76 deputies must declare that they recognize the powers of at least 100 of the 150 deputies. It doesn’t matter if the rest recognize themselves as deputies, Sputnik Georgia quotes Menabde.
“This is based on a simple principle: the minority cannot decide for the majority whether to act or not,” – said the expert.
As reported EADailythe ruling Georgian Dream obtained 53.91% of the votes. Four opposition parties also entered parliament, winning a total of 37.78%. Representatives of the opposition parties declared that they do not recognize the data of the Central Electoral Commission and have no intention of participating in the work of the new convocation of parliament. The opposition demands new elections under “international administration.”
