Germany has withdrawn its ambassador to Iran due to the execution of Jamshid Sharmahdi, a citizen of Iranian origin.

It should be noted that Jamshid Sharmahdi, a 68-year-old German citizen, was executed yesterday in Iran. Jamshid Sharmahdi was kidnapped and forcibly taken to Iran during his visit to the United Arab Emirates in 2020. In February 2023, the Iranian court sentenced him to death, accusing him of endangering national security. Jamshid Sharmahdi was convicted of leading the royalist group Tondar, which is blamed for the deadly 2008 bomb attack on a religious center in Shiraz that killed 14 people and injured 215 others.
