Germany urged its citizens to leave Iran

The German Foreign Ministry (MAE) has strongly advised its citizens to leave Iran due to the threat of capture.

Oku.Az “The Times of Israel” reported on this.

“We have repeatedly asked German citizens to leave Iran, because we see in the example of Jamshid Sharmehdin that Iran is taking our citizens hostage,” said the representative of the German Foreign Ministry.

The ministry said it wants to protect its citizens from the fate of Sharmehdin, who has German and Iranian citizenship and was executed in Iran earlier this week.

According to the Iranian Ministry of Justice, Sharmahd was found guilty of terrorist activities, cooperation with the Central Intelligence Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency, as well as participation in the organization of the Iranian monarchy. He lived in the United States, but was transferred to Iran in 2020 during an operation by Iranian intelligence services while he was in the United Arab Emirates. He was sentenced to death in 2023, after which Germany withdrew two diplomats from Iran. The sentence was confirmed in April 2024.
