Germany’s first national newspaper has stopped publishing its print edition

The major German newspaper Tageszeitung (German for “daily”) announced the cessation of publication of the print edition.

The Tageszeitung has become the first national newspaper in Germany to stop publishing its print edition. Instead, the editorial team wants to expand its website, its e-newspaper and its own app.

“We don’t have a crisis. We act from a position of strength.” – the editors were quick to say. Barbara Junge AND Ulrike Winkelmann.

However, for the deputy editor-in-chief Katrin Gottschalk Everything sounds a little different.

“The decision was intended to prevent the paper from going bankrupt,” he told SPIEGEL.

Previously EADaily reported that one of Bavaria’s oldest breweries, Schlössle Beer, announced its closure due to rising costs of raw materials and electricity.
