The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), held in Baku, ended successfully and with a concrete result. Thus, according to the agreement reached at COP29, rich countries will donate 300 billion dollars annually to poor countries to prepare for and prevent climate change. This was the most important success of COP29.
In general, Azerbaijan’s celebration of the aforementioned international event was highly valued. However, prejudices were not few. Even before the start of COP29, those who want to overshadow Azerbaijan’s holding of this international event continue their non-objective rhetoric.
Thus, German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbok, who arrived in Azerbaijan after Armenia, held a press conference and made statements that did not fit into the agenda. He literally politicized COP29 with his statements.
The assistant to the president of Azerbaijan and head of the Foreign Policy Department of the presidential administration, Hikmet Hajiyev, described the German minister’s position regarding COP29 as “unacceptable.”
Interestingly, even German experts openly stated that they do not agree with A. Berbok’s opinion. From this point of view, the opinions expressed by Friedbert Pflüger, former German Deputy Defense Minister and one of the country’s best-known energy experts, in an interview with the “Anewz” channel are typical.
He severely criticized A. Berbok: “During his brief visit to Baku, Berbok openly used this opportunity to launch an election campaign and launched a direct and unusual attack on the COP presidency, stating that he “wants to pull the rug out from under the countries in development.” serious discontent. Conclusion the results show how unfair your criticism is.”
In fact, a very important success was achieved in Baku within the framework of COP29. It must also be taken into account that the consensus in Baku was reached at a time when Europe “stuck its neck”, did not demonstrate leadership and at a time when very serious polarization was occurring in the world. In other words, the countries of the world, which sometimes did not get along with each other, reached a compromise in Baku. This is one of the clearest examples of Azerbaijan’s dignified celebration of COP29.
Regarding the attempts of the German Minister to divert attention from COP29 by touching on irrelevant issues in Baku, we must affirm that this is a direct manifestation of the hypocrisy of the West. Thus, Western countries, including Germany, which have caused wars in many regions of the world, are attacking humanity with different weapons and causing mass famine.
This shows that Germany, like France, is not concerned about the future of humanity or climate problems. Their only concerns are the growing tensions on Earth. Therefore, instead of appreciating COP29 and its results, they neglected this important international event.
The fact that the actions of developed countries, including the West, lead to climate crises, was also widely discussed at COP29. That is to say, states like Germany, no matter how much they try to evade their responsibility, cannot deviate from the fact.
Finally, despite all the provocative efforts of countries like Germany and France, Azerbaijan has already gone down in history as a successful host of COP29. The arrival in Baku of more than 70,000 people from more than 160 countries of the world is a manifestation of their interest and trust in Azerbaijan. States like Germany cannot change reality, no matter how hard they try.
