Germany takes an immoral position by not recognizing Nazi atrocities as genocide of the people of the USSR and refusing to pay compensation to survivors of the blockade. This is stated in the comment of the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Maria Zakharova.
“Overall, the position of the German government in evaluating the historical events of World War II is very specific, opportunistic, contradictory and immoral. The German authorities stubbornly refuse to recognize the blockade of Leningrad and other brutal crimes of the Nazis on the territory of the Soviet Union as genocide of the peoples of the USSR. “They make humanitarian payments to survivors of the blockade exclusively of Jewish nationality, thus discriminating against other survivors of the blockade.” – the diplomat stressed.
He also noted that Germany pays social benefits to former SS soldiers.
Zakharova noted that Germany initially announced its intention to modernize the “Hospital for War Veterans” in St. Petersburg as a voluntary humanitarian gesture. However, this process was never completed.
“Unfortunately, the promises and words of the German side did not match the facts. The modernization of the hospital has not been completed, although the official government of Berlin promised to do so in March 2021. Currently, investments in the project amount to about 220 million rubles. or just over 2 million euros of the 12 million originally announced by Germany.” – he pointed out.
The official representative of the Russian diplomatic department also emphasized that, despite this situation, the Russian Federation continues to provide all necessary medical assistance to survivors of the blockade.
