“give in” to the separatists in the Begoña Gómez case

Felipe González and Alfonso Guerra publicly agreed in an interview in which they addressed various, but not all, current political issues. The two former socialist leaders were frank in avoiding responding on alleged payments allegedly made to Bárbara Rey during her time in government. In response to persistent questions, Felipe González declared: “I’m not going to address that. It’s not serious,” distancing himself from the subject. Alfonso Guerra, for his part, considered that “it is not typical that a program like this” addresses these issues.

However, they wanted to comment on the current situation.political situation under the mandate of Pedro Sánchez. Guerra criticized the president of the government for what he considers to be a submission to the separatists: “Do we have to give up everything to have the majority? No. Nationalism coined a term, ordinality, which is the opposite of socialism. can you accept?” González was also critical of the possibility amnesty: “Amnesty is asking for forgiveness. Am I willing? I am not.”

Both also expressed their dissatisfaction with the management of the case of Begoña Gómezwife of Sánchez, and indicated that the government should not interfere in justice. González stressed that “in the event of intervention by the judicial system, the government has nothing to say to the judges about how they should or should not do their job.”

Former socialist leaders have also criticized the recent amendment which validates the sentences of ETA memberscriticizing the way he was treated. “What should not be done is this racket. There must be a condition: among other things, that they ask for forgiveness and help resolve cases that are not resolved,” González emphasized.

Finally, the two leaders regretted the lack of critical thinking within the PSOE current. Guerra stressed that “some want to return to dictatorship”, alluding to the alleged lack of internal debate within the party.
