Farewell to thousands of childhood adventures and memories for several generations. Disney Channel is disappearing. The open channel that could be seen via TNT will soon cease to be active (Actually, it will happen on a pretty important date.) There have been 27 years of our television history during which thousands of children have grown up with its series, films and specials. It’s the end of an era that many will remember fondly. What will happen to your entire grill now? Can we see it somewhere? With this loss, there will only be three youth and children’s channels left on RTVE’s TDT Clan channel; Boing, from Mediaset; and Neox, from Atresmedia.

It was on April 17, 1998 that Disney Channel was born in Spain as a pay channel. Disney and Sogecable have reached an agreement for the distribution of a Spanish version of the North American channel Disney Channel on the Canal Satlite Digital satellite platform, operated by the latter.
Three years later, the channel’s offering diversified on the same satellite platform, and offered 3 additional channels: a delayed service called Disney Channel +1, and the thematic channels Toon Disney and Playhouse Disney. The first was dedicated exclusively to broadcasting Disney animations, while the second was a channel aimed at preschoolers with special schedules.

To launch the channel, in addition to the archives of Disney cartoons, series and films, internally produced programs were used to bring the channel closer to the Spanish audience. After ten years of success on payment platforms, In 2008, Disney Channel moved to free television via DTT. On May 5, 2010, the channel achieved the largest audience in its history with the premiere of the last episode of the first season of Patito Feo with 1,187,000 viewers, breaking audience records.

Disney Channel Farewell Date

It will be next January 7, after Three Kings Daywhen Disney Channel will permanently disappear from TNT, according to VerTele. Of course, the same media indicates that “all the content that made up the Disney Channel programming on its linear schedule will continue to be available on Disney+ as has been the case since the beginning of the platform”.

VerTele also reports that Disney Channel’s farewell as a network will not mean the end of its little brother Disney Junior, a channel more aimed at children, which will continue to be available from paid operators such as Movistar Plus+, Orange TV and Vodafone TV, among others. It is confirmed as the last survivor from a group of channels from which they have already disappeared Disney Cinematic (2008-2015) and DisneyXD (2009-2020), and now Disney Channel (1998-2025).
