Government allocates 700 million euros for vocational training for the unemployed

This Tuesday, the Council of Ministers approved an amount of 867.28 million euros to train workers. The investment, one of the first initiatives of the political course, is made within the framework of Vocational Training and will be distributed among the Autonomous Communities, which will manage this training.

Of the total of these funds, coming from the general state budgets, 696.5 million euros will be allocated to training offers for the unemployed; 145.9 million for the training of salaried workers; and an additional 24.8 million for specific programs called by the communities, both for salaried workers and the unemployed.

The autonomous communities that will receive the most funds are Andalusia (137 million euros), Catalonia (128 million euros) and Madrid (110 million euros).

The Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Sports and government spokesperson, Pilar Alegría, recalled at the press conference after the Council of Ministers that in the last two years the number of workers trained in the vocational training ecosystem has increased from 11% to more than 20% and that funding for this route has increased by 865% with the current government.

The training and qualification of workers through the FP, which, with the new law, has grouped its two branches – the training of students and that of workers – under the aegis of the Ministry of Education, is one of the great bets of the Executive to reduce unemployment, including youth unemployment, and at the same time reconfigure the Spanish labor market, in which intermediate positions are scarce.

To this end, the new law is committed to micro-training, to the flexibility of curricula to make them more attractive to workers (specific modules can be followed instead of a complete training course of one or two years) and to the professional qualification of workers who, although they have mastered certain professions, do not have a diploma that supports this knowledge.
