The Spanish government has temporarily suspended the Ayudavalencia.es platform. This measure was carried out urgently after receiving a complaint of fraud from the Provincial Information Brigade of the National Police of Valencia. It is one of the many platforms opened since last Tuesday, October 29 to receive donations for the municipalities affected by DANA.
The catastrophe experienced in the cities of Valencia, Castilla-la Mancha and other regions because of DANA has awakened an avalanche of generosity and volunteers. However, it is important to be extremely careful when donating, according to cybersecurity experts in the face of the proliferation of online scams.
Red.es, an entity attached to the Ministry of Digital Transformation and Civil Service, reported the suspension of this website. Signs of fraud in the Internet domain Ayudavalencia.es will be investigated.
In principle, according to the Government, economic fraud is linked to the cryptocurrency Bitcoin, for those affected by DANA in the Valencian Community. “Immediately and in coordination with state security forces, its blocking was formally activated so that the domain ceased to have activity on the Internet,” they explain in the press release.
Following the usual procedure, the country’s main telecommunications operators were asked to immediately block access to this website. Anyone who wants to access the page at that time will not be able to do so. This was all done as part of the ongoing police investigation.
