The minister’s spokesman, Pilar Alegriaconfirmed that the government would present new budgets to Congress “in due course”, that is, before the October 1stbeyond the uncertainty due to the lack of support that the public accounts may have, especially from the Catalan independence movement.
At the press conference of the first Council of Ministers held after the summer period, Alegría confirmed that the Executive would respect its “responsibility” by submitting its draft budget for next year to the Lower House, and it will then be up to the parliamentary groups to act accordingly.
Of course, the minister stressed that on the part of the government there will be “outstretched hand” when it came to exercising this responsibility of presenting the public accounts, which he was unable to do this year, forcing the previous budgets to be extended, because, as he indicated, this was impossible in a year full of electoral events.
