The Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz, announced that the Council of Ministers will soon approve the new immigration regulations that will accelerate the legalization of immigrants and streamline the processes, as reported by ‘ elEconomista.es’. This was announced during the presentation of the OECD report on the outlook for international migration, a document which highlights that Spain is the fifth developed economy that welcomed the most foreigners in 2023.

The minister boasted that Spain is “redoubling its efforts” to “strengthen” the regulatory framework for migration “in order to ensure legal certainty both for businesses and for migrants themselves, facilitating their integration on the labor market and in Spanish society, with the greatest respect for human rights. “.

The next regulation, which must only go through the Council of Ministers, plans to strengthen legal immigration channels through new anchors, such as family reunification or the regulation of temporary employment.

The Executive will give more weight to roots as formula according to which people who are already in Spain and who are not authorized to work can do so. The new regulations should support some sort of new socio-professional training or new socio-professional roots.

The OECD report indicates that Spain is the fifth developed economy to have welcomed the most foreigners last year, with 364,000 people. Concretely, arrivals increased by 12.3% compared to 2022, when 324,000 people arrived. The report says that last year, only the United States (1.1 million migrants), the United Kingdom (746,900), Germany (692,700) and Canada (471,700) exceeded this figure .
