Government vows to present budgets even if it does not have support from Congress

The government will present a draft general state budget to Congress even though it does not have the necessary support to implement it. This was announced on Tuesday by the spokesperson for the Executive, Pilar Alegría, who promised to promote the accounts “as soon as possible”. “We will work to present accounts, new budgets that are in line with the economic situation. “We are aware of our responsibility,” he said.

The minister assured that the Ministry of Finance is already “in talks and negotiations to present new budgets” that will be transferred to the Congress of Deputies. And it was at that moment that he launched an appeal to all the parliamentary groups that promoted the investiture of Pedro Sánchez.

“When this government fulfills its task, the responsibility of the rest of the political groups will also come into play. It will be time to listen to their opinion,” he warned before stressing that the Executive maintains “its hand extended” to the political groups.

Fiscal pact with Catalonia

During the press conference that followed the first Council of Ministers of the course, Pilar Alegría answered questions from the press about the controversial fiscal pact concluded between the PSC and the ERC in the context of the investiture of Salvador Illa. The minister’s spokesperson did not want to go into details, although she guaranteed that this agreement would be respected, and although she avoided any discussion about whether or not this pact implies a concert like the one in the Basque Country, she recalled that this word does not appear in the text of the agreement.

“The literal meaning is clear: singular financing, inter-territorial solidarity. These are the terms. And the agreement will be fully respected,” he said.

Alegría justified the territorial investment policy of the Executive. “This government continues where it was: transferring funds to the autonomous communities like never before in history. “Focused on the model of public services, the welfare state that we want.”

Asked about the implications of a bilateral fiscal relationship with Catalonia, the spokesman defended that “the equality of the Spaniards is guaranteed by the resources: 300 billion euros, that is the historic amount that we have transferred and that allows the Autonomous Communities better health, education or dependency,” he said.
