The Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz, assured this Thursday that the Government prepares a plan so that patients with cancer work “voluntarily” during their treatment. Concretely, the politician declared that she was going to open a negotiation table with social agents with the aim of reforming the system temporary incapacity (ARTICLE). The objective of this legislative change will be to make the return to work of disabled people more flexible. sick leave and “with an eye” on disability.
During her speech at a breakfast organized by Nueva Economía Fórum, the minister expressed the intention to review the regulations, which will also include cancer patients.
Saiz argues that, thanks to medical advances and technology, people who have overcome serious illnesses could choose to return to work flexibly.
The politician explained that her intention is to relax the regulations in this sense, as was done in the pension reformwhere compatibility between work and retirement has been authorized.

He commented that previous regulations were “very abrupt” about the choice between being a worker or retirementsuggesting that the new framework should better adapt to the different personal and professional situations of citizens.
The idea, explained the minister, is to modify the regulations to make them more flexible, as was done for the compatibility of work and retirement in the last agreement on pensions, because on this point the existing regulations ” was very abrupt” and “either you were a worker or you were retired.
“We have made this transit more flexible, based on volunteering. The same goes for temporary incapacity,” said the minister, who indicated that with current IT regulations, “or are you sick or are you sick“.
On the other hand, the socialist declared that this reform could also introduce greater flexibility for the return to volunteering in the IT processes of multi-activity employees: “There are people who can be on sick leave for an activity, however, for the other, they can carry out certain works,” he stressed.
