The parish hall of s’Alqueria Blanca was the scene this weekend of Sixth Santanyí Local Studies Conferenceorganized by the Lausa Cultural Association and supported by the Santanyí City Hall and the Department of Culture. This event, which had a great success in participation and interest of the public, brought together many participants, including experts, researchers and neighbors interested in the historical and cultural heritage of the municipality.
The opening ceremony took place Friday 8 with a conference of
Jaume Ferrando Barcelowhich dealt with the beginnings of fishing activity in Santanyí, highlighting the role of invisible people in the community, such as the fishermen’s pool. A presentation which caught the attention of all the participants, offering a deep vision of the associations and their influence on the socio-economic configuration of the municipality over the years.
Over the days, a total of 23 communications which covered a wide variety of topics, from historical and ethnographic studies to research on the local architectural heritage. The sessions brought together a diverse audience, including academics, students and those interested in local history, demonstrating the growing interest in discovering and preserving Santanyí’s roots.
On Saturday 9, after the official conclusion of the conference, a march towards the Pou del Reian emblematic place of s’Alqueria Blanca which is part of the cultural heritage of the municipality of Santanyí. This activity was the culmination of a weekend dedicated to study and diffusion of the past of the termproviding participants with an enriching experience and opportunity to share knowledge in a historic setting.
The VI Santanyí Local Studies Conference was a meeting point for the community, reaffirming the commitment of the Town Hall and the organizers to the promotion and preservation of local heritage.
The success of the participation and the interest generated among the participants portend a continuity of the event in future editions, consolidating it as a reference event for lovers of the history and culture of Santanyí.
