Groundwater collected in Baku metro will be used to clean the city

Baku Metropolitan JSC will implement new projects to use groundwater as technical water.

This was stated by the head of the press service of JSC Bakhtiyar Mammadov in his statement to “Report”.

According to him, there are many ponds in the subway because it is a place of underground water:

“A model project has been implemented near the Nizami station to extract groundwater formed in the underground tunnels to the surface and to effectively use it. To ensure the sustainability of the work carried out, new projects of the same type have been proposed. In this regard, the activities conceived with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and the Executive Authority of the city of Baku will be implemented.”

B. Mammadov noted that expanding the use of groundwater collected in the metro as technical water for watering trees, washing and cleaning the city is a very important project that also leads to water saving.

“A number of projects have been implemented to save water in the Baku metro. These include optimal water supply to all zones taking into account the demand of production areas, reconstruction of the entire system in this direction, washing of cars using groundwater efficiently as technical water, watering of trees and a number of other projects,” he stressed.

The CSC official noted that the commissioning of the Khojasan power station is one of the most important projects affecting the environment of Baku in the metropolitan region:

“This area, about 24 hectares in size, was a wasteland until the reservoir was put into operation. In addition, the creation of ponds here led to an unhealthy environment and a fundamental violation of the ecological balance. Today, that area has been cleared of waste and a reservoir has been built. This already has a negative impact on the environment: there are no ponds and, in particular, improvement works are being carried out in the area, planting about 2,000 trees and taking ecological measures. This is one of the most important projects to restore the ecological balance in the Khojasen settlement.
