Guided tours of the Monastery of San Jerónimo de Córdoba: registration, dates and times

The Madinat al-Zahra archaeological complex, dependent on the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Government of Andalusia, has scheduled the 10th edition of monographic visits to Monastery of Saint Jerome of Valparaíso, in collaboration with the owner of the protected property and the Department of Art History, Archeology and Music of the University of Córdoba. For eight Saturdays, between October 5 and December 14, 2024, and in two sessions per day, sixteen guided tours will be organized during which you can enjoy this unique architectural enclave.

The route through the monastery will be led by art history specialists under the coordination of the Professor of the History Department of art, archeology and music María Ángeles Jordano Barbudo, which will show visitors the compass, the church, the cloister, the novices’ courtyard, the chapter house, the balcony of the facade and the chapels of the cloister.

This place, whose foundation dates back to the beginning of the 15th century, is one of the main examples of Gothic architecture and art in Córdoba. At that time, it became the productive epicenter of this area of the foothills of Sierra Morena. After its confiscation in 1836, the building was abandoned until 1912, when it was acquired by Mr. José. Maria Lopez de Carrizosa and Garvey, Marquess of Merit.

From that moment, its new owners began the restoration and recovery work which continues to this day. In 1980 it gained legal protection as a monument. Currently it is classified as Property of Cultural Interest (BIC) from Madinat al-Zahra.

Thus, on Saturdays October 5, 19 and 26, November 9, 16, 23 and 30 and December 14, two daily screenings will take place (at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.) with a capacity of 25 people per pass. Participation in the activity is free and prior registration is required, which will be done via the Madinat al-Zahra archaeological site website. The registration period will open the Monday before each visit from 10:00 a.m.
