‘Gulf Session’ at the Archaeological Museum of Alcalá de Henares

For some time now, museology has become dynamic, interactive and playful. It was a subject pending in any explanatory discourse and it is enough to refer to the facts to verify this reality.

For example, this Saturday, the Community Archaeological and Paleontological Museum opens its doors until midnight, joining “Heritage Night” and with the added suggestion of spending an evening among dinosaurs, science and even fantasy.

The extension of the programme also allows the public from the age of ten to attend the temporary exhibition “Dragon Hunt”, the leitmotif of which is to raise awareness of the historical evolution of paleontology as a science, its relations with society, based on replicas of fossils.

Its unprecedented success has meant that until January 25, this nighttime program will be maintained in the Plaza de las Bernardas in Alcalá de Henares.

But what also makes this Saturday at the museum special is the screening of the creative documentary “El Valle de Concavenator”, by Víctor Matellano. A film that delves into the mythological fascination of dinosaurs starting with the discovery, in the nearby city of Cuenca, of the remains of the “Concavenator corcovatus”, a species immortalized by “Jurassic Park”.

After the screening of the film, a symposium entitled “Concavenator, a creature of cinema”, will hybridize cinematography, cinephilia and science with the presence of the director himself, the specialist in special effects, Colin Arthur, advisor to directors such as Stanley Kubrick or Wolfgang. Petersen and José Luis Sanz, professor of paleontology at the Autonomous University. It should be noted that Arthur and Sanz are both part of the cast of the documentary.

In addition to this unusual program, visitors will be able to visit the installation’s permanent exhibition, which ranges from the evolution of the primitive fauna that inhabited the region (in the Emiliano Aguirre room) to the archaeological remains of the peoples who populated the territory: Romans, Visigoths…

The reservation of free places, in any case, must be made on the website of the Archaeological and Paleontological Museum of the Community.
