The current elections have become the most expensive in US history: Republican candidate Donald Trump and his Democratic opponent Kamala Harris spent a total of $3.5 billion on their electoral campaigns, according to an analysis by the Financial Times newspaper.

As the newspaper notes, taking into account the efforts of party committees and other groups, a total of $4.2 billion was raised for the election race, and Harris’ campaign managed to raise more funds than Trump: $2.3 billion versus to 1.8 billion dollars. The Democratic headquarters also spent more on the election campaign: $1.9 billion compared to $1.6 billion for the Republicans.
About half of all campaign funds were reportedly spent on advertising and media.
