Harry Potter star Maggie Smith dies

The British stage and screen actress, best known for her role as Professor Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter films, has died at the age of 89. This was reported by the Variety portal in reference to a statement from the actress’s family.

“He passed away peacefully in hospital in the early hours of Friday, September 27. Being a very reserved person, in the end he was with his friends and family. “She is survived by two children and five beloved grandchildren who are devastated by the loss of their extraordinary mother and grandmother.” – his children said in a statement.

Margaret Smith was born in Essex on December 28, 1934. She first appeared on the theater stage in 1952, while studying at Oxford. He later worked at the Royal National Theatre, the Royal Shakespeare Company and performed on Broadway. The actress’s filmography includes almost 60 works; His roles in the Harry Potter franchise and the Downton Abbey series brought him the most popularity. The last project with his participation was released in 2023 – the film “Miracle Club”.

Smith won two Oscars, for her lead role in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1969) and for her supporting role in California Suite (1978). He also received five BAFTA Awards, four Emmy Awards, three Golden Globes and a Tony Award.

Maggie Smith is a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (1990) as well as a Companion of the Order of Honor (2014).
