The Mayor of Madrid José Luis Martínez-Alemida returned to The anthill this Tuesday to talk politics with Pablo Motos. “Let me start talking about DANA,” Pablo Motos asked him, right at the start of the conversation. And the presenter then mentioned that all the politicians said that after the tragedy it was not the time to throw things away, “but you didn’t stop.”
“We need to think about politics. “Society seems to be something distant from us, and even more so now,” recognized the Madrid native, who emphasized that politics is everyone present, from him as mayor to the people who are in the audience. He admitted that politicians have problems”connect with society. And he launched a reflection on Valencia: “People were kissing and cleaning each other and they were from all political parties, and they must reflect on the inability to work together to rebuild. We must be able to carry out reconstruction without looking at the other“.
Almeida reflected that the problem is not making mistakes, but not recognizing them. “I made quite a few mistakes,” he said of his role as mayor of Madrid. “You can’t correct it if you don’t admit the mistake.” This humanizes us in the eyes of citizens. “They think we are cyborg robots that program us.” “I sincerely believe that the tragedy in Valencia gives us the opportunity to reflect”he added.
Pablo Motos asked a direct question: Did Alberto Núñez Feijóo and Pedro Sánchez talk about DANA? “Feijóo says Sánchez didn’t call him” » he condemned, and trying to make his speech “non-partisan”. Concerning Mazón, Pablo Motos asked him if the Popular Party supports Mazón because it has no choice or because his management is good. “Because the priority is the reconstruction of Valencia. And Feijóo said it yesterday: no more errors will be admitted. Carlos Mazón has lost a certain confidence in Valencian society, he knows that the reconstruction begins now and that he cannot fail. You can’t make any more mistakes, that’s the summary,” he concluded by saying.
The most delicate question asked by Pablo Motos was whether Almeida believed that if the central government and that of Valencia had been of the same party, DANA would have been managed differently. “It seems so dramatic to think that I’d rather not even think about it,” he assured, insisting on the idea that the important thing is to “work together to rebuild Valencia”.
Furthermore, regarding the future of his party, he stressed that “what I know is that we must have our own identifiable project, in which a large majority of Spaniards can come together”, emphasizing the way in which “There are Spaniards who, without voting for the PP, are worried about the deterioration of our coexistence”.
