Squatting is one of the problems that most affects society today, with serious cases that place legal owners in extreme situations.
This is the case of the owner of a building in Lavapiés who, upon acquiring the property in its entirety, found that there was an illegitimate owner who, for about 15 yearsre-rents apartments to tenants with fake contracts.
The case was taken up by the Cuatro program “On everyone’s lips”who interviewed live, in front of the building, a representative of the company that acquired the property in question.
Neighbors who live in the sublet apartments pay up to 1,000 euros in cash per month to the illegitimate owner, who has no power over the building despite posing as its owner for three decades.
“Some time ago we had this building in mind, we came to discuss and This character appears who told us that we had nothing to do“, which was completely legal, until a week ago we already had the whole block in our possession and my surprise is that when speaking with the neighbors they tell us that they pay 900 and 1,000 euros,” Rogelio, the representative in question, told the cameras. . of the Mediaset channel.
Threats to tenants
“He may have collected significant capital over the past fifteen years. Without declaring it, he does not pay taxes, all the money he collects is in cash, from what I understand, he has even threatened the supposed tenants,” he adds.
Some tenants supposed that the company that Rogelio represents, which acquired the building through an investment fundtried to help at all times.
“We offered them a sum, we paid for the transport and the moving, we offered them a hotel for all the damage that this person caused,” he explains.
The intention of the owner company is to facilitate the transition to the current tenants who are illegally remaining in the building due to the bad skills of the fake owner. However, putting an end to the latter will not be easy.:
“I’m going to create a mediation office and it’s pure psychology, they’ll end up leaving because they’ll be cornered. My intention is to help the people inside, but we’re not going to put in place access controls, is not allowed“We’re not going to do it,” reveals Rogelio, who predicts that the fake owner will probably be “the last one to leave.”
