“Either you win or you don’t come back”
His mother, Filara Ismayilova, says that Jamal’s love for his Motherland was formed since childhood. It even happened when he was in kindergarten: “His teacher called him the pride of Azerbaijan…”
Jamal also loved his family members very much. His sister Khayala Ismailova remembers her childhood years this way: “Jamal was a very naughty child. Being his older sister, I always protected him. Jamal and I were very close to each other. We were not only brothers, but also friends and friends. Confidants always said: “Either you return victorious from the battle or you don’t return.”
He was going to be a doctor, but he became a soldier.
Jamal chose this profession himself. According to his mother, Mrs. Filara, it all started when he joined the army: “I wanted Jamal to be a doctor. But I could see that he was preparing reluctantly. He had a notebook in which he wrote: “My mother wants to be a doctor.” , but when I grow up I want to be an officer.” After finishing school, he went to the army. After eight months of service, he wrote to me that “the special forces course has been opened and.” I’ll sign up there. “Don’t worry about me if I can’t contact you when I’m in the course.” He worked there for 18 years. He won awards not only in Azerbaijan, but also abroad. a parachute 94 times. He participated in the battles of April 2016.
“We must demonstrate our love for the country with our actions”
Mrs. Khayala says that Jamal changed a lot after becoming a soldier: “It was as if a different person appeared inside him. He said that I am ready to shed the last drop of my blood for my country. These words seemed strange to me.” He tried to make us understand that love for the country is not just about words. We have to demonstrate our love for the country with our actions. The fact that our lands were occupied affected him greatly. “It was as if he wanted to take revenge only on the homeland.”
The hero of his daughters and his wife.
Jamal, father of two daughters, always showed them true love. Filara Ismayilova also spoke about her relationship with her daughters: “She loved her family and her children very much. She used to go skiing with her daughters. She made her two daughters go swimming. She said: ‘My daughters should be brave.’ ‘”
According to his wife Fatima Ismayilova, Jamal was not the only wife for him: “He was also my friend. Despite the difficulty of his job, Jamal always spent time with his children. The most important thing is that he did not let us feel the tension and difficulty of his work.”
Jamal was not the only patriot. This is how he raised his children.
Filara Ismayilova: “In our house there has always been a flag. She promised her daughters that we would buy Shusha, go with you and plant our flag there.”
“I’m not a hero yet”
Martyrdom was his greatest desire. Because he held this position for 18 years. His sister Khayala Khanim says that the martyrdom of his comrades before his eyes had a negative effect on him: “He lost his closest friends in the April battles. Therefore, in the subsequent period he felt very disappointed. When he was asked why, he responded by saying that “suddenly losing people with whom you fought shoulder to shoulder for years is very difficult, I couldn’t protect them. I used to tell him that “you are our hero too.” His answer is still in my ears.” : “I haven’t become a hero yet, someday I will be.” Jamal was preparing us for the war to happen one day and he set the example for us. He always told us to always live our pride within us.
“He said goodbye to us many times at the risk of dying”
For Fatimah, being a military wife was both a responsibility and a pride: “Throughout our 11 years of marriage, Jamal said goodbye to us many times for fear of death. He even wrote a will when he went to the battles. We had a difficult situation and stressful life because of Jamal’s work. Every time I went to training and battles, I know what I am going through with my children. When I receive a call from him, I am proud to be his wife because he taught me. “I can survive with my children.”
“Every time he explained to us young people that…”
Comrade, intelligence officer and junior ensign Ayar Abbasov also remembers Jamal as an experienced soldier: “We were in a battalion with Jamal since 2019. He was the communicator of our group. We fought together in the Patriotic War. We were together in battles .For Jabrayil, Hadrut, Khojavand, if I was able to learn anything, 60 to 70 percent of them were trained by him. Since Jamal was more experienced than all of us, he was always in the front with the battalion commander and the group. of intelligence.
In the military, we sometimes got tired of reading the same lessons and doing the same tasks every day. But Jamal was never bored. However, he was in this field for 18 years. Each time he explained to us young people that none of our preparations were in vain. Jamal told us about our heroes who were martyred in the April battles, about their bravery.
Conqueror of Fuzuli, Gabriel and Hadrut
Ayar Abbasov also spoke about the successes achieved in the battle thanks to Jamal: “Our group commander was martyred in Fuzuli. He did not let us stop. We were besieged in Fuzuli for four days. We were fighting in four directions. Jamal led Then, when we attacked with another battalion in Jabrayl, he was the most advanced again. We won that victory with 18 people. When we say that Hadrut, we captured the Armenian colonel for two days. The Armenians did not understand who gave the order. They found out that it was the Azerbaijanis who gave the order. order.

The morning of September 26 I called his friend. He told me that Jamal had gone to training. On September 27th we found out that there was a war. I knew that Jamal was at the front. I tried to make sure that nothing would happen to us or his sister from time to time. “
Jamal promised his sister that he would return from the war, but this time it didn’t work: “I talked a lot with my mother and that’s how I found out. But I wrote messages to her in the mornings.” He knew that he would definitely respond when he returned from the war at night. He always tried to calm me down in his messages. I wanted him to reassure my parents. He said you should come back at any cost.
“I stayed 59 years old for life, and Jamal stayed 36 years old”
Her mother says Jamal always called her on her birthday. But this time he congratulated his mother with his testimony: “The last time he called was on October 18. October 21 was my birthday. I thought he would definitely call. I waited until the evening, but the call did not come. In the Por The night we received a message, but they did not say that he was a martyr. They said that he had fallen into a coma on October 23. When they left, they discovered that he was a martyr for life and that Jamal was 36 years old.
“Jamal will never be surrounded”
Mrs. Fatima remembers her last conversation with her husband: “The last time we spoke was on October 18. That day, we spoke with Jamal so comfortably that his voice seemed to come from home. We thought that everything was ending little by little, he Al When I returned on October 21, they told me that they were surrounded. At that moment, I remembered what Jamal said: “If something like this happens, our only solution is martyrdom.” That’s why I insisted that “Jamal will never be surrounded.”
Communication voice: “Jamal was martyred…”
Although his family was told that “Jamal was surrounded and wounded,” the reality was completely different. According to Shamil Mammadov, whom Jamal saved during the last battle, was wounded but did not retreat: “Our last battle was on October 19 in the direction of Khojavend. Jamal was in the reconnaissance group in that battle. When we entered the battle , the enemy was small, but help came later. I was wounded in the battle. Jamal put a bandage on my leg and took me to the rear, the voice came: “Jamal was martyred until the night.” We couldn’t get the martyrs out. They were only able to get them out on October 23.”
“Why isn’t my father coming?”
Currently, Jamal has a son. The absence of their father is very difficult for the three children.
Fatima Ismayilova: “My daughters still do not come to their senses after their father, I cannot find them. And my son wishes every day for his father, whose face he has never seen. My son is still very young, he does not lose his mind and I can’t explain to her where her father is. Every day she says, why doesn’t my father come? I felt like a very strong woman until I lost my husband. But I am very weak when it comes to my children’s questions.
It should be noted that the memory of Jamal Ismayilov is always highly appreciated. Jamal’s first birthday after his martyrdom was celebrated at the Heydar Aliyev Center. At that event, Jamal’s Patriotic War Hero badge was presented to his son. In 2020, in the Hasanabad settlement of the Neftchala district, a memorial plaque and a bust of Jamal Ismayilov were placed in the house where he lived.
