Heavy delays at Atocha station at the start of the weekend due to a signalling fault

Several trains departing from Madrid’s Atocha station and with destinations such as Toledo and Puertollano, as well as high-speed trains to Seville, Malaga or Marseille, have been delayed due to an incident that has affected signaling since at least 1 p.m., ADIF and Renfe sources have confirmed to EFE.

This incident, resolved shortly before 3:30 p.m., has however caused average delays of 50 minutes in most trains to these cities, with departures from Atocha added to those recorded on the Madrid-Barcelona line, which has been affected since early morning by the derailment of a train without passengers.

The circulation of high-speed trains to or from Atocha was interrupted around 1:00 p.m., and after the problem was corrected at 3:25 p.m., the affected convoys gradually recovered their frequencies, according to ADIF, the Administrator of Railway Infrastructure, a public affairs entity attached to the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda.

Among the high-speed trains affected are the AVE to Seville at 1:00 p.m., the AVANT to Puertollano at 1:15 p.m., the AVE to Marseille at 1:25 p.m. and the AVANT to Toledo at 1:45 p.m.

Trains to Madrid’s Puerta de Atocha station have also been more or less affected, such as the AVANT from Toledo at 1:00 p.m., the AVE from Seville at 10:39 a.m. and the AVLO from Barcelona at 10:00 a.m., the Puertollano AVANT at 12:25 p.m.; the AVLO from Malaga at 10:48 a.m. and the AVANT from Toledo at 1:34 p.m., as reported by Renfe and ADIF from their different news channels.
