Heavy rain expected Wednesday and Thursday

A the new DANA seriously threatens the province of Malagaaccording to the latest forecasts from the National Meteorological Agency (Aemet), which indicate the high possibility of recording heavy rains in the middle of this week.

According to details provided by the director of Malaga Meteorological Center, Jesús RiescoAs the hours pass, the impact that this phenomenon will have on the territory of Malaga seems more evident.

Proof of this is that the current yellow alert that weighs on the regions of Sol, Guadalhorce and Axarquía on Wednesday, with rainfall estimated at up to 20 liters per square meter in one hour and 60 liters accumulated in 12 hours, has been lifted. “Certainly move to a higher level“explains Riesco.

“At the end comes a new DANA of Isolated cold mass that could leave intense precipitation in the province Wednesday and Thursday”, indicates the director of the Malaga Meteorological Center, who recognizes that a few days ago the forecasts indicated that this DANA was heading towards the eastern part of the Mediterranean, almost without affecting the peninsula. The situation has changed these last few hours, confirming that this will be felt.

It remains to be determined what is the degree of affectation of these rains after a week in which torrential rains caused significant damage in Álora, Cártama and other municipalities of Malaga.

The good news is that these rains will allow us to continue to improve the records of the current hydrological year. So far, the intense rains brought by the last DANA have meant that towns like Cártama, Álora, Ardales, Campillos and Tolox have already recorded more water than during the entire previous hydrological year.

For example, in Cartama There are two stations in the Hidrosur network where this has been tested. On the one hand, there is that of the Guadalhorce River, where so far during the hydrological year 2024-2025, 195.2 liters per square meter have been recorded, compared to 180.9 liters falling during the previous hydrological year. It is followed by Fahala station, where 195.3 liters of water was recorded last year and the current sum stands at 226.6 liters per square meter.

Also in AloraThe station that has already accumulated more water than during the whole of last year is the Paredones Dam. At this station, 256.9 liters per square meter were recorded in this first month of the hydrological year, compared to 189.5 liters last year.

For his part, in Ardales The situation of the Conde del Guadalhorce reservoir attracts attention, which has already added 238.4 liters per square meter and last year 160.2 liters per square meter decreased.
