Heavy rains in Guadalajara cause flooding, road closures and temporary suspension of the Festival of the Giants

The rains of the last few hours have caused a total of 165 incidents, including floods, drainages or road closures, such as that of the CM-2005 between kilometers 10 and 25 due to a landslide in Brihuega (Guadalajara). The Festival of the Giants held in the provincial capital has also been canceled.

As confirmed by 112 of Castilla-La Mancha, the road closure notice began around 2:37 a.m. due to a landslide. Road maintenance personnel continue to work in the area.

The Specific Plan for Adverse Meteorological Risks was activated in the Emergency phase, operational situation 1, on Friday at 11:30 p.m. in the province of Guadalajara, due to the unfavorable evolution due to the rains and storms that have affected the province. This decision was taken after the orange level warning due to the heavy rains and storms observed, issued last night by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), for the Alcarria region of Guadalajara and due to the need to mobilize the resources assigned to the plan.

The Government of Castilla-La Mancha, through the Ministry of Finance, Public Administration and Digital Transformation, activated this plan on Friday at 11:30 p.m., including in the Alcarria region of Guadalajara.

The highest number of incidents at dawn

Since the activation of the plan, at 17:45 yesterday Friday and until 22:00, a total of 4 incidents have been registered at the Emergency and Coordination Service and Emergency Care 112 of Castilla-La Mancha. Between 22:00 and midnight, 124 incidents have been registered, the localities where the highest number has been reported: Guadalajara with 55, Cabanillas del Campo 38, Molina de Aragón 14, Valdenoches 6 and Marchamalo 6.

Between midnight and 8 am today, Saturday, August 31, a total of 37 incidents were recorded, so the total accumulated in the province of Guadalajara, since the activation of the plan, amounts to 165 incidents, the main reasons being: flooding in closed and open spaces without risk, lack of electricity in homes and obstacles on the road.

The municipalities where the highest number of incidents have been reported are: Guadalajara with 78, Cabanillas del Campo with 40 and Molina de Aragón with 15. In Molina de Aragón, the Infocam media have been mobilized and, in collaboration with the firefighters of the Fire Extinguishing Consortium, and Salvamento de Guadalajara, are collaborating in the salvage work of two garages and the cleaning of some streets of the city.

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), for this Saturday, August 31, maintains yellow warnings for storms, with probability of hail and very strong gusts of wind, throughout the province of Guadalajara and in the region of Alcarria de Cuenca, from 4:00 a.m.

For the moment, the Festival of the Giants that takes place in Guadalajara has decided to temporarily suspend this Saturday, August 31, due to the recent rains in the capital. Due to the unfavorable evolution of the day, the festival has shared on social networks the decisions made regarding the location, transfers or camping.

“We are evaluating all possible options for the day. We ask for your patience and to stay attentive to our Social Networks. We will inform you quickly of everything. At this time, your safety is the most immediate thing. We apologize for the inconvenience,” they assured from their X account.
