The board of directors of Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) accepted limit access to two electric scooters and two bicycles per metro or tram from December 1st Metropolitan networks and Alacant TRAM.
The decision was adopted after assessing that the transport of electric bicycles and scooters poses a series of problems related to operation, transport, safety and coexistence between users.
The large number of complaints received forces FGV to adopt this measure: it will now be necessary sit in the last car or wagon metro or tram.
The restriction to two electric scooters and bicycles It may be modified at the discretion of FGV staff depending on the actual occupancy of the vehicle or other circumstances that require it.
In addition, electric scooters and bicycles must always be folded upon access to the facilities and their carriers will be responsible for not causing inconvenience to the rest of the passengers or damage to the vehicles or facilities.
They will also have to stand alongside them in empty spaces on trains and trams. And under no circumstances can drivers’ access to the driving cabs be hindered.
At the same time, access to elevators for electric bicycles or scooters is prohibited. During certain eventslike the Fallas, it will be possible to prohibit access to electric bicycles and scooters throughout the network or in certain areas, as is already the case today.
The restriction, “without effect”
Compromís urges the Generalitat and Valencia City Council to remove the restrictions for electric bicycles and scooters on the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat (FGV) or to determine that they remain without “immediate” effect.
They claim it because of mobility complications caused by DANA on October 29.
“The restrictions will come into force next Sunday 1st and will aggravate the accessibility difficulties of tens of thousands of Valencians affected by DANA, who would have the most economical and efficient solution for their needs by combining bicycles, personal mobility vehicles and public transport, transport, travel,” alleged the councilor. Giuseppe Grezzi.
Compromís’ request comes just a week before the measure comes into force, after the disaster that generated the loss of thousands of motor vehicles and the forced transfer of many car and motorcycle users to public transport, and sustainable mobility vehicles such as bicycles and personal mobility vehicles (PMV).
According to Grezzi, if DANA has demonstrated anything, it is the importance of cycling and bicycle intermodality for getting around the metropolitan area when the infrastructure dedicated to motorized traffic breaks down.
“Only in Paiporta and Picanya There are thousands of families who have lost their cars and who could now return to some normality and even find relief from their situation thanks to the savings in time and money that would be required to replace them through the combination of efficient public transport and bicycle”, declared the mayor. of Compromise.
