The Lebanese militia Hezbollah, Iran’s main tentacle in the Middle East, has blamed Israel for thousands of simultaneous search engine explosions. —a regular communication device between its members— registered in Lebanon and Syria. What’s more, it promised that the Jewish state would receive “its just punishment.” To date, there have been eight deaths and nearly 3,000 injured, including two hundred in critical condition, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health. Hezbollah claims that the militia’s leader, Hassan Nasrallahis not among those involved. So far, no one in Israel has admitted to being behind the incident.
The chain of explosions began in the early afternoon, and those affected spread throughout Lebanon and even to Damascus, the capital of Syria. Initial indications point to the devices being manipulated so that if they overheat, they explode in the pockets or hands of their owners. If the most plausible hypothesis also proves to be correct, this would constitute a serious security failure by the militia and Iran. The name of Mojtaba Amani appears in the list of injured, by the way. He is the ambassador of the Islamic Republic to Lebanon.
