In southern Lebanon, a rocket fired by Hezbollah militants hit a base of the UN peacekeeping force (UNIFIL). According to the IDF, the terrorists’ target was Israeli territory, but some of the missiles fired missed their targets and fell inside Lebanon. Among them was a missile that hit a base in the Deir Ames area.
Israel Info writes about this.
UNIFIL representatives confirmed the incident and reported that four Ghanaian peacekeepers were injured. The UN mission said the attack was carried out by a missile fired by “non-state actors” in Lebanon, avoiding direct mention of Hezbollah.
Despite the data provided, Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosto blamed Israel for the incident. At a meeting of EU defense ministers in Brussels, he called the incident “another Israeli attack on UN peacekeepers,” noting that three missiles allegedly fell on the base.
The IDF previously warned the UNIFIL mission to reduce movements and patrols for the safety of its personnel. This warning was prompted by the increasing frequency of military clashes in border areas. In recent weeks, peacekeeper bases have already been damaged twice as a result of military operations in the region.
The Israeli authorities emphasize that responsibility for the bombing lies with Hezbollah, while the Italian side considers Israel guilty of the general destabilization of the situation.
