Honda boss explains why Marc Marquez didn’t win races before Aragon

1,043 days later, for the first time on the back of a Ducati and not once, but twice, Marc Marquez won again in MotoGP.

Doubled in Aragon to certify that he has returned to his best level, complete his adaptation to the Italian bike and tighten the World Championship.

Of course, those who know the man from Ilerda well had no doubt that this would happen sooner or later.

Alberto PuigRepsol Honda director, is a good example. “Marc wanted to test himself, he wanted to know if, with a good bike, was still competitive“, he recalled in statements to ‘El Periódico’ about the departure of Márquez.

So, knowing him, I knew he would come back on top: “I was very happy with Marc’s victory… and I was waiting for him.”

Although I hoped he would do it sooner thinking that the “difference” between the Ducati GP23 and the GP24 was not that big.

“I was hoping he would win sooner, but I was very surprised by the difference there is between this year’s Ducati and the 2023 Ducati,” he explained.

“This difference, which is important, prevented Marc from winning races in the first third of the season,” he concluded.
