Honored artist, prominent musicologist, doctor of philosophy in art studies and professor Suraya Aghayeva died at the age of 77.
Farid Gulmammadov, S. Aghayeva’s son, reported this to APA.
He said that the health of S. Aghayeva, who was admitted to the hospital after suffering a stroke, deteriorated again a few days ago and it was not possible to save her life.
The farewell ceremony for the deceased will take place on October 20 at 11:00 a.m. at the Taza Pir mosque.
It should be noted that Suraya Aghayeva was born in 1947.
He was a member of the International Council of Traditional Music (ICTM) of UNESCO, the International Society of Ethnomusicologists and the Union of Composers of Azerbaijan. In different years, he worked as a teacher at the Baku Academy of Music, the Hacettepe State Conservatory of Türkiye and the music faculty of Bilkent University. He was a prominent researcher in the Department of History and Theory of Music of the Institute of Architecture and Art of ANAS. S. Agayeva’s scientific activity was devoted to the research of Azerbaijan, eastern musical culture and medieval manuscripts. He is the author of numerous books and articles on the history and theory of Mugam art, published in Azerbaijani, Russian, Turkish, Persian and English.
