Hooded gunmen surround and besiege the Argentine embassy in Caracas, which is hosting 6 Maduro opponents

The formation led by María Corina Machado attributed the responsibility for these events to the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro. “We hold Nicolas Maduro responsible for this siege against our leaders sheltered in the embassy. Our heads of command are housed there: Magalli Meda, Pedro Urruchurtu, Omar González, Claudia Macero and Beto Villalobos,” he stressed.

Earlier, around 8:30 a.m. (local time), Urruchurtu had announced the arrival of patrols from the Bolivarian Intelligence Service (SEBIN) and the Directorate of Strategic and Tactical Actions (DAET) who, “alongside hooded and armed officials, surrounded and besieged” the Argentine embassy in the Venezuelan capital.

The party’s human rights committee alerted the international community to the presence of these troops “with hoods on their faces, armed and wearing bulletproof vests,” and held the party responsible. Maduro government of “everything that can happen to (his) companions”.

For its part, the Venezuelan Unitary Platform showed its rejection of the “irregular situation” occurring in the Argentine embassy in the country and demanded the cessation “immediate of this “persecution”“Doing politics is not a crime!” he argued on the aforementioned platform.

Brazilian authorities have ensured Argentina’s consular representation, keeping its embassy in Caracas, since early August, after Maduro expelled diplomats from Buenos Aires for denying his victory in the July 28 presidential elections.
