Hostage negotiations: media reported on the meeting of the head of the Shin Bet with the head of Egyptian intelligence

It was learned that the head of Israel’s General Security Service (Shin Bet) met with the head of Egyptian intelligence, Abbas Kamel, in Cairo.

Journalist Barak Ravid published information about it on his social network page. unknownciting a source familiar with the details of the negotiations.

According to Ravid, the parties discussed stalled negotiations on the possible release of hostages and a ceasefire. Despite lengthy discussions, no progress was made in resolving these issues.

One of the key points of the meeting was the discussion on the Rafah border crossing, which was closed in May when the IDF began its operations in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.

It is noteworthy that the Shin Bet has so far refrained from commenting on this meeting and its results.

Previously, Cursor reported that IDF reservists issued a strict ultimatum to Netanyahu and Galanta.

A group of IDF reservists wrote an open letter to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, calling for immediate negotiations for the release of the hostages. The letter was signed by 130 reservists, who expressed concern that the continuation of hostilities in Gaza not only delays the return process of captured citizens, but also puts their lives at risk.

The letter emphasizes that unless the government reconsiders its strategy and takes concrete steps to free the hostages, many soldiers will be forced to stop serving. “For some of us we have already crossed the red line, but for others this moment is not far away. We will be unable to continue serving and, with great regret, we will stop reporting for service,” the appeal reads.

Among the signatories are soldiers who participated in the fighting in Gaza and on Israel’s northern border after the Hamas attack on October 7 last year, in which 251 Israelis were kidnapped. According to The Military Balance 2024, the IDF has 169.5 thousand active troops and another 465 thousand in reserve.

It was previously reported that Benjamin Netanyahu held a meeting on security issues in which the status of negotiations on the release of hostages was discussed. The meeting was attended by key security officials, including Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Prisoner Affairs Coordinator Gal Hirsch.
