Houthis set ship on fire in Gulf of Aden

Two missiles have exploded near a ship in the Gulf of Aden, the UK Navy’s Maritime Trade Operations Office (UKMTO) said.

The incident occurred 130 nautical miles (approximately 241 kilometers) off the city of Aden in Yemen. UKMTO clarified that the ship’s crew was not injured and the ship is heading to its next port of call.

The British Navy advised ships to exercise caution in the region and report any “suspicious activity.”

Since the fall of 2023, Yemen’s Houthis have been attacking commercial ships passing through the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. They explain the attacks as a response to the Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip and claim that they are targeting ships associated with Israel. In response, the United States and the United Kingdom are attacking Houthi targets in Yemen.
