Democrat Kamala Harris and Republican Donald Trump face off this Tuesday, September 10, in a face key in his race for the White House. Both arrive with the objective of tipping in their favor a balance of voting intentions that remains technically equal.
“Did you hear him laugh?” That’s a crazy laugh!“; “I’m prettier than Kamala!”; “She’s a real radical leftist nutcase” are just some of the insults Trump has directed at Harris in recent weeks.
Now, all indications are that Trump will ignore his advisers and continue this strategy of insulting his opponent. But, How does Harris handle a debate where the opponent insults you?
Emilio Doménech, an American political analyst, explains to laSexta that if Trump opts for insults and personal attacks, Harris’s probably smartest strategy is to let Trump present himself. Precisely something she has done very effectively in this month and a half of candidacy.
“People have already forgotten the Trump presidency and, therefore, they have forgotten his most visceral aspect and this chaotic presidency,” Doménech commented. For this reason, he insists that “anything that brings American citizens closer to this most aggressive Trump will be a victory for him.”
The political analyst also explains that “what Donald Trump’s advisers want is a successful candidate, determined to talk about policy initiatives and defend his presidential record.” However, he says, “then there is this Donald Trump that we are more accustomed to seeing.”
“We saw it in the footage from the rallies, in the debates in 2020 and 2016. This is the Donald Trump that his advisers don’t want to see, that Republicans probably don’t want to see,” he added.
So, he emphasizes, it remains to be seen whether “Kamala Harris manages to bait Trump and whether he ends up taking the bait.”
