The court testimony of Shirkhan Imanov, accused of brutally murdering 36-year-old Gunay Alakbarova, with whom he lived in an unofficial marriage, in the city of Barda, has been released.
According to information obtained by Pravda.az, he pleaded not guilty to the charges announced in the trial presided over by Judge Dadash Imanov of the Ganja Serious Crimes Court.
He stated in his testimony that he met Gunayla about 6 months ago:
“During the time we lived with Gunay, we sometimes stayed in the living house in the area called “Taza Mahala” of the district, and sometimes in the house I rented located in Alachadirli village. I was in an unofficial marital relationship with Gunay. On March 29, 2023, at around 7 pm, Gunay came to the cafe where I worked. We had a drink. At that time, there was no one else in the cafe. At that time, Gunay wanted to go out through the door. I dragged him inside the cafe and closed the door. I called his mother and told her that her daughter was worried. She started talking to me about her daughter’s past life and told me that the dispute should be resolved between us. While I was talking to the woman on the phone in the courtyard of the cafe, I saw that Gunay destroyed the inside of the object, hit the door and window with an axe. Then I entered the cafe and saw blood coming out of Gunay’s chest. After being next to him for a while, “I left there and found a taxi driver named Anar at the top of the market and took him to the café. When I entered the café, I saw that Gunay was sitting on a chair, bleeding profusely from his chest. I asked the taxi driver for help as he could not get into the car. With Anar’s help, we lifted Gunay into the car and took him to the Barda District Central Hospital. At the hospital, the doctors said that Gunay had already died.”
Following his statement, Shirkhan Imanov said that he did not hit Gunay, but that the woman was injured:
“I simply shut Gunay’s mouth and kept him at home. Later, I informed Gunay’s mother about the incident.”
According to the indictment, Shirkhan Imanov’s girlfriend, who was eight months pregnant, quarreled with Gunay Alakbarova in the cafe, locked the door and did not allow her to leave. The reason for this was that Gunay wanted to see his children from his first marriage. At the time of the incident, when Gunay Alakbarov actively resisted, Shirkhan beat him and killed him.
He was found guilty under Articles 120.2.8, 128 and 145.2.2 of the Criminal Code (murder of a pregnant woman, intentional slight harm to health and unlawful deprivation of liberty).
According to the court’s verdict, Shirkhan Imanov was sentenced to 17 years in prison.
