Konstantin Korsun, another cybersecurity expert, agreed that the explosives were hidden inside the batteries and that the detonation was caused by the batteries overheating following a specific order. He noted that the Israelis knew of the vulnerabilities of these devices and used known methods to overheat the batteries, which, in turn, started explosions. Korsun believes the operation demonstrates advances in technological development, as devices such as pagers are generally considered safer from hacking due to their simplicity and lack of operating systems.
Both experts agree that Hezbollah’s switch to analog devices such as pagers was an attempt to prevent electronic and cyber surveillance by Israel. However, despite this, the operation demonstrated the vulnerability of even such primitive technologies to the complex methods of modern intelligence services.
