The US presidential election is approaching and the prospects for US foreign policy are raising serious concerns both inside and outside the United States. Regardless of whether Donald Trump or Kamala Harris wins, analysts and diplomats do not expect the future American leader to act confidently on the world stage.

Both candidates demonstrate a notable lack of interest in foreign policy issues. Kamala Harris, having no experience or knowledge in this field, according to experts, depends on advisors and ministers, which raises doubts among the international community. Donald Trump, in turn, demonstrates an extremely negative attitude towards international organizations and alliances, including NATO and the European Union. Western diplomats say his disruptive stance threatens the stability of the global system and puts long-term U.S. alliances in relations with countries like North Korea at risk.
The biggest concern is Washington’s possible reaction to the strengthening of the “axis of evil”: the alliance of Russia, China and Iran. Both candidates, according to experts, do not understand the danger posed by the strengthening of this coalition, which, according to senior UN diplomats, could have serious consequences for global security. The concerns of international organizations are further heightened by a recent book by Herbert McMaster, a former Trump adviser, in which he describes Trump’s “ridiculous” behavior in meetings with world leaders.
There is also no unity among the American Jewish community. Trump, according to his representatives, is not a favorable option for Israel: relations with him can be unpredictable. Support for Kamala Harris is less pronounced, but most Jewish voters lean toward her. His criticism of the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip is considered legitimate and is shared by many members of the community, which gives some credibility to his position.
However, in Israel itself there is sympathy for Trump, causing surprise and fear among leaders of the Jewish community. As one senior member of the Jewish community said: “Today’s Trump is not the kind of person Israel would expect as an ally.”
