Currently, the risk of measles continues in Azerbaijan. An outbreak of measles has been recorded since April 2023. As a result of the outbreak, mainly children and adolescents who were not vaccinated against measles became ill.
A new academic year has already begun in Azerbaijan. With schools opening, children being in the same enclosed space and in close contact with each other can lead to the spread of various infections, including measles.
So how to prevent these diseases?
In response to Trend’s query, the Republican Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology said that starting from December 2023, in order to prevent the spread of measles in the country and strengthen preventive measures, children up to 10 years old who do not have measles and the population between 11 and 40 years old will be excluded from measles vaccination.
“During this period, 48,734 children and elderly people excluded from measles vaccination were vaccinated with the measles, mumps rubella (MMR) and measles and rubella (MM) vaccines. Immunization measures are currently continuing,” he added.
Commenting on the issue, pediatrician and resuscitator Goshgar Ismayilov said that the period of virus activity begins in September.
“Especially in autumn, viral infections are more common. The opening of kindergartens and schools will lead to the spread of infections among children under six years of age. There are several ways to prevent this. First of all, it is important to have adequate nutrition and sleep, in addition, vaccination and timely attendance at medical appointments can help prevent infections,” he added.
